Toured a textile finishing plant last week. My love for big, fast machines was fortified. Happily, they offer "green" solutions - the eco kind, not only the fluorescent kind.

STRING THEORY is keeping me busy! Off to the CTCM to begin designing a Spring/Summer collection then back to North Carolina to finalize samples before heading to the big apple for the NYIGF in August. A trip to London for Origin will follow then its back to Toronto for the OOAK.

This robot is spitting sand and water to cut my pattern from a sheet of steel. It did this non-stop for about 36hrs. Thanks to Marinco Kojdanovski at the Powerhouse Museum for shooting the sexy video. (You may want to turn your sound down before playing.)

I'm avoiding winter while in residency at Artspace, Sydney. A big metal sculpture is in the works and will be exhibited as part of Love Lace at the Powerhouse Museum.

three dimensional weaving

Woven monofilament and crin trim, 5ft x 20ft. "Crin trim" is a woven nylon ribbon. It has a lot of body to it. In this textile, I have used the crin trim in the weft and allowed it to periodically float or "escape" the weave structure. Where floating, the ribbon regains its full width and creates bubble shapes. This shape was repeated in the installation of the textile.
